To achieve a pure white background in product photography, there are a few key steps to follow. First, set up your product photography background by placing a white wall or other white surface about one meter from your subject. Place two or more high-powered strobes behind the background, and add wide dish reflectors on them. Point them at the wall away from the background and set them to max output. This will create a bright, even light that will eliminate any shadows or gradients on the background.
Next, position your product in the center of the frame and ensure it stands out against the white background. Use props or product stands to showcase different angles or perspectives, and avoid casting shadows on the backdrop by carefully positioning your lighting setup. Use three lamps, one on top left and right, for the best light, and insert a piece of white paper or cardstock behind your product. Turn off all other light sources in the room, including sunlight, so that the lighting in your picture is consistent.
Once you have taken your photos, you may need to adjust the white background using image editing software. To do this, click on Image > Adjust and select Levels or use the shortcut Ctrl L. Select the third eye drop icon and click on the white backdrop of your product image. Change the Input Levels as needed and click on Ok. This will ensure that the background is pure white and free from any shadows or gradients.
