Most World War 2 photographs were taken in black and white because color photography was still a relatively new technique during that time and was not widely available. Additionally, black and white photography was more practical for military use as it was less expensive and easier to produce than color film. As a result, the vast majority of photos taken during the conflict were in black and white. It wasn't until after the war that color photography became more widely used and popular.
